Pourquoi le technicentre s'appelle Quatre Mares ?
L'origine du nom de cet établissement tient au fait qu'il a été construit sur des terrains marécageux au début du XXe siècle.
Est ce que le technicentre a toujours eu la même vocation ?
Sa vocation, jusqu'à aujourd'hui, à toujours été la révision générale des locomotives. D'abord la traction vapeur jusqu'aux années 60 puis le diesel jusqu'à aujourd'hui. La transformation des trains de voyageurs en rames bloc et le démantèlement du fret ferroviaire ont eu raison d'une bonne partie des locomotives. C'est ce qui explique, par ailleurs et en grande partie , le nombre d'engins voués à la destruction qui s'entassent dans le triage de Sotteville.
Combien de personnes y travaillent ?
L'effectif des cheminots, est passé progressivement de 1300 dans les années 70 à environ 500 aujourd'hui dont beaucoup de contrats précaires (CDD. Intérim) depuis la réforme du statut de 2018. Les opérations actuelles de mi-vie ne sont pas pérennes ce qui rend incertain l'avenir du technicentre de quatre mares pour les années à venir.
